It is without a doubt that COVID-19 has affected our society in ways that we never thought possible. On the report that was published by the UNICEF 2020 titled “How COVID is changing the face of childhood in South Africa” it noted that the more the pandemic persists, the negative prospects intensifies on children’s academics, health, nutrition and general well-being. Creative Mentorship Hub is an art-based non-government organisation that is based in Johannesburg, inner city. Beneficiaries consist of boys and young men that emanate from the inner city and Orange Farm, a township situated in the far South of Johannesburg. On the 13-10-2021, it hosted its 3rd annual art exhibition event at Yeshiva college based in Glenhazel, Johannesburg. This was the first exhibition since the outbreak of the virus that has affected more than 3 million people in the country with about 9000 deaths related to COVID-19 since the first outbreak in March 5, 2020 (https://www.google.com/search?q=coid+deaths+to+date+south+africa&rlz=1C1EJFC_enZA870ZA872&oq=coid+deaths+to+date+south+africa&aqs=chrome..69i57.8155j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 accessed 13-10-2021).
This event did not only provide platform for these young men to shine but it had a lucrative prospect as they had the opportunity to put up their art work on the walls. The artists enjoyed being the centre of attention on this evening and seemed to be having fun interacting with the audience, sharing their personal experiences, thoughts and stories behind their artwork. The Creative Mentorship Hub took this opportunity to award the young people with certificates as means of showing appreciation of their dedication and hard work. Furthermore, the Hub would like to express their deep gratitude to the young people of Yeshiva college and their families for coming out in numbers to support this initiative. It was wonderful seeing the support from colleagues, friends and family.
